So…my baby cousin Mary Catherine was baptized on Sunday. So I decided that it was an opportunity-to bake a cake of course! I realized that I needed to stretch my “fondant skills” and chose to decorate my cousin a little tea party of her own. Of course, I needed to add my famous mini cupcakes along with the cake. I couldn’t show my face without cupcakes!! Let’s be realistic here! (and in the shape of a heart!)
Everyone absolutely loved it….and it is now my quest to learn how to “ship” my little cakes. I must figure out how to do this! It’s imperative! It’s now my new goal. Anyone willing to be a guinea big? This experiment might end in multiple broken cakes and many tears (from me)…but if I figure out how to do it…then it will positively be worth it!
And honestly, once you start thinking about all the little details that go into a celebration like this, it makes you appreciate how much fun the food and drinks can be. The cake and cupcakes were obviously my contribution, but I also love the idea of making the whole gathering feel like a complete little experience. Something like Film Coffee Catering LA could be such a cute addition to a baptism, shower, birthday, or family party, especially when everyone is already sitting around chatting and enjoying dessert.
I think that is what I love most about these kinds of occasions. They give you an excuse to do something creative that you probably would not make on a normal weekend. A tiny fondant tea set? Absolutely. Heart-shaped cupcakes? Obviously. An unreasonable amount of time worrying about whether every little detail looks right? Naturally.
Now I just need to conquer the shipping problem. I have visions of opening a box and finding perfectly intact fondant flowers and cupcakes sitting exactly where I placed them. Of course, reality may involve smashed frosting, crooked decorations, and a very sad cake box, but I refuse to give up before I even try.
Maybe the answer is extra padding, freezing the cakes first, sturdier boxes, or some magical combination of all three. Either way, there will definitely be practice runs.
And if those practice cakes happen to need someone to eat them afterward…well, I suspect finding volunteers will be the easiest part of this entire experiment.
